Mounting

It is essential to understand how your fixture is going to mount before ordering. Some fixtures require a unique mounting setup that requires coordination with your contractor. We encourage you to read through our installation guides with your installer to prepare for delivery day. For your convenience, we've created the following categories that show on product pages:

Universal

A Universal mounting type means the fixture's mounting hardware is compatible with multiple-sized Junction Boxes and will fit onto almost any kind of mounting situation.

SINGLE GANG J-BOX ONLY

We've designed certain fixtures to be tall and skinny. As a result, the backplate will no longer cover a typical 4" Hex J-Box and requires a Single-Gang box.

Single-Gang J-Boxes are usually just 2" wide. They are the smallest option available while maintaining UL standards.

Keep in mind that while we have mounting adapters available for other mounting types, a fixture is categorized to use Single-Gang Only has a design element that cannot be compromised. A single-gang J-box is the only option.

SINGLE GANG J-BOX. ADAPTERS AVALIBLE

Fixtures categorized under this mounting type have the design intent of using a Single Gang J-Box. The most notable example will be our Court II. Its backplate is tall and skinny, which compliments the design but isn't wide enough to cover the larger 4" Hex J-Box. We recommend doing everything you can to have your contractor install a Single-Gang J-Box, so the design intent is maintained. And if you're installing onto a pre-existing J-Box, it can usually get replaced relatively quickly by an electrician.

If, however, your site condition forbids you from using a Single-Gang J-Box, there is an adapter available designed to be as minimal as possible and can be specified while configuring a product.

4" Heavy Duty J-Box Only. Rated for 150lb

Fixtures categorized under this mounting type are heavy and require a strengthened mounting installation. Consult your contractor to ensure the J-Box is rated for 150lbs and will be structurally reinforced.

4" J-Box only. Minimum 1.25" depth

Fixtures categorized under this mounting type have hardware on the backplate that needs to recess into a J-Box. In other words, no pancake boxes, as the most common 4" Hex J-Boxes satisfy at least 1.25" depth.

Dimming

All of our lighting fixtures are dimmable, and we test our designs with the leading brands to ensure high-quality results.

In the old days, dimmers were simple. We only had to worry about incandescent bulbs, and it always worked perfectly. But within the past 20 years, the world of dimming has turned complicated. LED lighting has gradually replaced the incandescent bulb but has left behind a whirlwind of products designed for compatibility between two technologies.

To reduce this complexity, we've chosen to include a light bulb that our design and engineering team has carefully selected. Rest assured, you will receive a high-quality bulb with excellent dimming features from the world's leading brands like Cree, Sorra, and Tala.

On every product page, you will see a link for the bulb that we include. For the most accurate assessment of dimmer compatibility, we recommend reading the bulb manufacturer's spec sheet. We've also included the dimming category that best works with the bulb type.

Triac

Best for incandescent bulbs.
The traditional dimming type was initially designed for incandescent bulbs. Good LED bulbs are designed to work with Triac dimming, but results vary.

LED+

Best for LED bulbs.
LED+ is optimized for replaceable LED bulbs while also maintaining compatibility with incandescents. This is a newer dimming technology spearheaded by Lutron, but other manufacturers offer similar options. Sometimes referred to as CL.

Electronic Low Voltage (ELV)

Best for LED bulbs and Integrated LED modules.

0-10V

Works mainly with fixtures that have an external LED driver.

Universal

Universal dimming means the bulb is compatible with all dimming types above, except for 0-10V.

If you have a special dimming requirement, please contact your sales rep or sales@alliedmaker.com so we can assist you.

Recommended Dimmers

Lutron Diva

We've had excellent results with Lutron Diva dimmers, and we like the classic minimalist paddle switch design. They offer versions in all dimming types and have a variety of finish options.

Our friends at Forbes & Lomax make lovely dimmer switches that work perfectly with our lighting. They share our values of using high-quality materials with authentic patina finishes.

Lead Time

Our current lead time is approximately 16 to 18 weeks.

Leads times come hand in hand with artisan-crafted, high-quality, and made-to-order products. You are investing in original designs that are created using time-honored craftsmanship. Our process takes time, and by purchasing fixtures from us, you agree to give us the time required to craft your order to our exacting standards. And in turn, we agree to expend all of our energy and resources to deliver your order within the quoted lead time and give you that "worth the wait" feeling when you open the box.

Lamping

Base Type

Lamping mainly refers to the lamp base type or the bulb's socket type used on the fixture, as well as the bulb's shape and size. This information comes in handy if you're looking to source your own bulb, but rest assured, we include the best bulbs for our fixtures and replacement bulbs are available for purchase on our website.

Color Rendering Index (CRI)

CRI indicates how well the light will render color. For comparison, the sun has a CRI of 100, while a typical LED bulb has a CRI of 80.

Every Allied Maker fixture comes with bulbs that are 90 CRI or higher to reflect the best quality light source from the latest LED technology.

Kelvin Color Temperature

Kelvin measures the color temperature of light. Household fixtures are commonly found in color temperatures on the Kelvin scale of 2700K (warm incandescent), 3000K (warm white halogen), and 3500K (household fluorescent).

Our studio prefers 2700K for its classic warm glow, but we also offer some bulb options at 3000K when requested.
